LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to our new website!

Friends of Music and the Arts in the Scarsdale Schools continues to make new inroads into the arts community at the Scarsdale schools.

In addition to our yearly school gift program, which enables all k-12 grades to benefit from donations to their arts and music programs, FMA also offers donations to school clubs and provides outstanding awards and certificates to students’ whose achievements in music and the arts have been recognized.

FMA has donated funds to each school so that they may purchase permanent display cases that will feature a constantly rotating show of student artwork, a project we initiated.

A sampling of FMA’s contributions this year include: $800.00 for a machine that converts photographic slides into digital files for the high school art department; $500.00 for Fox Meadow’s Annual Art Show, enabling them to have a permanent show banner and display materials; $500.00 for a special Gathering Drum with mallets for Edgewood; $350.00 for the newly launched National Art Honor Society at Scarsdale High School.

Expanding our focus into all areas of the arts this year, FMA has provided promotional support and manpower to the Middle School’s incredible, multi-disciplinary hyperbolic reef project.  In 2008, for the first time, FMA held a holiday boutique and fundraiser, which featured seven vendors, and donations of food and wine from community retailers.

Our Spring, 2009 pilot, The Young Writer’s Review, a creative writing project for elementary school children, has been successfully launched.

Our brand new Friends of Music and the Arts website will provide the entire community with information about what’s going on in the arts and members will have access to information on what scholarships, grants, awards, contests, and summer programs are available to students each year.

FMA continues to provide information to the community at large regarding music and art events and new programs at the schools, we advocate for the arts in the district and we keep an open dialogue with the arts and music faculty and administrators system-wide. We also provide the delicious treats at concerts.

We hope that you will you will find this website a valuable addition to the community and take this opportunity to join our organization. Help us to support the programs that support your children’s achievements.

Thank you,
Ann Fraser, President
